GIWEH at the 2023 UN Water Conference

GIWEH took an active part in the UN 2023 Water Conference, the Midterm Comprehensive Review of the UN Decade for Action on Water and Sanitation (2018–2028), held at United Nations Headquarters in New York from 22 to 24 March 2023. It was the first dedicated UN conference on water in nearly half a century, and a landmark moment for the global water agenda.

The GIWEH delegation, led by Director-General Dr Nidal Salim with Dr Dietrich Bartlet and Dr Tobias Schmidt, contributed across the programme. The Institute presented on water for cooperation, social justice and water technology, and joined general debates, side events and partner receptions, including early engagement towards the 10th World Water Forum.

GIWEH's participation reinforced its role in connecting science, diplomacy and delivery, and fed directly into the Water Action Agenda commitments that emerged from the conference.
