The proposal
The Togean Islands sit within one of the richest marine ecosystems in the world, in Tojo Una-Una regency, Central Sulawesi. Following a field mission in 2025, GIWEH developed a proposal for an ecological and research centre serving conservation, research and the surrounding island communities.
The centre is designed to bring scientific capacity to the islands while creating local livelihoods, and is structured for long-term investment.
