Dr. Martin Bruza

Dr Martin Bruza is a civil engineer specialising in flood-risk analysis and flood protection, with a focus on Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

He holds a Master of Civil Engineering from the Technical University in Prague (1999) and a PhD in applied ecology for flood-loss risk analysis (2006). During his doctorate he worked on flood analysis and mitigation on the Orlice river in cooperation with EPFL. His methodology for flood-hazard and risk mapping is used by the Czech Ministry of the Environment, and his work on the economic effects of floods won first prize at the International Conference on Advanced Engineering Design in 2003.
