GIWEH at 43rd session of UN Human Right Council

GIWEH took part in the 43rd session of the UN Human Rights Council, held in Geneva from February to March 2020 and resumed from 15 to 22 June 2020. The Institute contributed a side event, oral statements and a written statement, focusing on the human right to water and sanitation.

GIWEH's interventions linked the right to water with environmental protection and public health, and called for practical measures to extend safe water and sanitation to underserved communities. The Institute's accreditation with UN-ECOSOC allows it to submit statements and convene events within the Council's programme.

The session is one of many at which GIWEH has carried the water, environment and health agenda into the international human rights system.
