Qistas Initiative
Qistas, Arabic for fairness, advances water equity and access for communities rebuilding after conflict, putting justice at the centre of recovery.
What we are building
In post-conflict Syria, water systems are damaged, governance is fragmented and trust is scarce. The Qistas Initiative works at the intersection of infrastructure and fairness: rehabilitating supply where it is most needed, while building transparent rules for how scarce water is shared between returning communities.
GIWEH pairs technical rehabilitation with local capacity-building, so that the people who depend on a system also help govern it, the foundation of a recovery that lasts.
Approach
The initiative starts with the most vulnerable communities, sequences quick wins alongside longer-term institution-building, and measures success by access, equity and local ownership.
