Dr Nidal Salim

Founder & Director General

Dr Nidal Salim is the founder and Director General of GIWEH, a Steering Board member of the Swiss Water Partnership and a Board of Council member of the Asia Water Council.

A Palestinian citizen based in Geneva, he holds an undergraduate degree in Applied Geophysics from Damascus University (1993), a master's degree in Groundwater Hydrology from UNESCO-IHE in Delft (1998), and a doctorate in the application of remote sensing and GIS in the water cycle from the University of Geneva (2006).

He founded GIWEH in 2007 in recognition of the need for a broad, interdisciplinary approach to water and environmental safety. Before founding the institute he collaborated with research institutes, universities and international organisations, including the Middle East Peace Process Water Working Group, WHO, WMO and UNEP, and served as Director General at the Palestinian Water Authority. He has an extensive record of publications and takes an active part in international conferences and workshops.
